You will serve as an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), located in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Service Delivery Staff (SDS).
IT Specialist (INFOSEC) work involves ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Major duties commonly performed by employees in this specialty may include, but are not limited to:

Administers information technology (IT) principles, methods, and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information system resources.
Implements and advises on IT security policies and procedures to ensure the protection of information transmitted from installation using Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN).
Accomplishes risk analysis, security testing, and certification due to modifications or changes to computer systems.
Planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
Recommends compensatory and alternate security control strategies to close gaps between compliance guidance and technical solution capabilities.
Prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
Supporting application software programs and cloud platforms which involve highly complex software development life cycles including requirements analysis, design evaluating, assessing, and implementation.
Develops strategic IT security implementation planning and project management activities.

You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or trial period.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of IT Specialist (INFOSEC), (GS-2210-11/12/13/14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.
BASIC REQUIREMENT
Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Intermediate to Mastery level knowledge of IT theories, principles, methods, and practices related to system administration, infrastructure operations, and information security to support the mission and programs of serviced customers.
Intermediate to Mastery level knowledge of IT system security and vulnerability principles, concepts, methods, standards, and practices sufficient to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DOJ infrastructure systems.
Intermediate to Mastery knowledge of software engineering project management methods, theories, concepts and practices.
Intermediate to Mastery knowledge and skill in a wide variety of internet technologies to analyze the internet potential of systems, networks, and data and resolve highly complex and controversial issues.
Intermediate to Mastery knowledge ability to keep abreast of new and emerging IT solutions, information technologies, and industry trends, cost-benefit analysis principles and methods, analytical methods and practices, and project management principles and methods.
For all grade levels for this position individuals must have Specialized IT-related experience listed below.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the federal service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-11 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the federal service). Specialized experience includes; maintaining systems, networks, security, and connectivity to ensure sound security principles; and supporting information security activities, initiatives policies, procedures and programs.

Three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree; your education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

Combination of education and experience as described above. Less than one year of specialized experience may be combined with graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level (i.e., credit hours beyond the first two years of full-time study may be credited).
GS-12 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service). Specialized experience includes; testing and maintaining network infrastructure including software and hardware to ensure sound security principles; and evaluate and initiate appropriate action on requests to satisfy new/unique requirements for the security of various operating systems.
GS-13 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service). Specialized experience includes; experience with service platforms (UNIX, operating systems, Windows and backup) and planning and coordinating installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
GS-14 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service). Specialized experience includes; assisting with the development of applications software and support of new or existing applications software; and applying IT project management principles, methods, concepts, standards, and practices sufficient to accomplish assignments.
